The Advanced Practice Environmental and Occupational Health (APEOH) graduate certificate is open to both domestic and international applicants and can be done as a stand-alone program or concurrent with the completion of a University of Washington graduate degree.

The program is intended for graduate students in all disciplines and professions who incorporate or are interested in incorporating environmental and occupational health in their practice or research.

Eligibility to apply

You must meet one of the following criteria to apply:

  • Domestic applicants with either a bachelor or graduate degree who wish to complete the graduate certificate as a stand-alone program
  • Current University of Washington graduate students may complete the graduate certificate in APEOH concurrently with their graduate degree
  • International applicants who have a previous graduate degree (to complete the program as stand-alone) OR are concurrently enrolled in a University of Washington graduate degree program

Deadlines

Graduate certificate applications are due at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time on the following dates:

  • October 15 to begin study in Winter
  • January 15 to begin study in Spring
  • May 1 to begin study in Autumn

How to apply

APEOH Graduate Certificate applicants will apply via the online UW Grad School application based on the criteria below:

Applicants with a bachelor’s degree

If you are applying to the graduate certificate program as a stand-alone program, please select: Graduate Non-Matriculated, then “M or Nursing-Seattle Campus”

Applicants with a post-baccalaureate/graduate degree; international applicants

If you have earned a post-baccalaureate/graduate degree or are applying as an international applicant, please select: “Nursing-Grad Cert Prog- Adv Prac Nurse (Environmental and Occupational Hlth)”

Current UW PhD or DNP students

If you are a current UW PhD in Nursing Science or Doctor of Nursing Practice student, please submit:

  1. A “Goal Statement” as your letter of intent describing why you are interested in obtaining the APEOH Graduate Certificate and how you will use this training to inform or enhance your advanced nursing career, and
  2. An academic recommendation, such as one from a class instructor, academic advisor, or supervisory committee chair, who can speak to your interest in and ability to complete this graduate certificate program to sonapply@uw.edu. A full application is not required.

When applying via the appropriate online application, all applicants will:

  • List all post-secondary school attended and upload transcripts
  • Upload to the online application:
  • Designate two recommenders. Recommenders will receive an email prompting them to submit online recommendations for you. You should choose someone you have had contact with during the last five years, and who can speak to your interest in and ability to complete this graduate certificate program. Choose two from the following options:
    • Professional recommendation from a current work supervisor
    • Academic recommendation, such as one from a class instructor, academic adviser, or supervisory committee chair
    • Professional recommendation from a co-worker or previous work supervisor
  • Responses to the admissions questions (see instructions for prompts)

Additional requirements for international applicants

International applicants applying to complete the graduate certificate as a stand-alone program must also submit:

  • Proof of English proficiency, if appropriate
  • Officiation translated evaluations for each non-U.S. post-secondary school attended
