Ways to Give
Your Giving Options
There are multiple ways to give to the UW School of Nursing — from writing a check, to making a gift of stock, to making a contribution through your will. We’ve provided a brief overview of giving methods and gift types, below.
If you’re interested in speaking with someone about giving, please contact Jenny Vincent, assistant dean for advancement, at 206 616-0889 or via email.
CHECKS. Make out your check to the “University of Washington Foundation,” and please include the name of the UW School of Nursing fund or priority you wish to support in the memo line. Then mail it to:

TRIBUTE GIFTS. If you’d like to remember a family member, friend or mentor — or celebrate a memorable event — consider paying tribute to the people you love with a gift to the school. You can select this option when you make an online gift. Alternately, call us at 206.543.3019 and we can help you.
MATCHING GIFTS. Use this convenient online tool to see if your employer will magnify the impact of your gift.
PAYROLL DEDUCTIONS. If you’re a University employee, you can sign up to make a bi-weekly gift to the program of your choice.
STOCKS, BONDS AND DONOR-ADVISED FUNDS. Read about giving stocks and bonds on this easy-to-use page, or visit another page to learn about donor-advised funds, such as those maintained by Fidelity or The Seattle Foundation.

PLANNED GIFTS. If you’d like to leave a legacy with our School, you can consider one of these options:
- Bequests. You can use your will to make a significant commitment.
- Charitable gift annuities or charitable trusts. You can receive income during your lifetime.
- Gifts of real estate. You can eliminate the burden of caring for unwanted property.
For more information on these and other planned giving vehicles — and the benefits associated with them — please contact Amy Scott at 206.685.3289 or via email
The University of Washington separates donor contributions into two categories: endowed gifts and current-use gifts. These types, both highly useful to the UW School of Nursing, serve different purposes.
Endowments: a reliable source of revenue. When you make an endowed gift, the University invests the principal and uses the interest to benefit the program or department you designate. Endowments are permanent funds, so they’re useful in establishing long-term, sustainable resources. Depending on the type of support you wish to provide, creating an endowment takes a minimum investment of $25,000, payable over five (or fewer) years.
Current-use: an immediate source of revenue. Current-use funds are useful in providing immediate support for programs, operations, renovation and construction, and there’s no minimum investment requirement.
Whether you give to an endowment or to a current-use fund, you have the option of making a pledge, which allows your gift to be paid over a set schedule (up to five years).
Your gift may be tax deductible as charitable contributions for federal tax purposes as allowed by IRS regulations. The UW Foundation’s federal tax ID is 94-3079432. Gifts of securities (tax ID 91-6001537) may have additional tax benefits. See UW’s FAQ page for more information.
