FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: JULY 6, 2022

We are pleased to announce that plans are in process to appoint Monica R. McLemore, PhD, MPH, RN, FAAN, as Interim Director, for a one-year term at the Center for Antiracism in Nursing.

Dr. McLemore, a renowned scholar in reproductive justice and active in national efforts to advance anti-racism, will be officially joining the Department of Child, Family, and Population Health Nursing at the start of the upcoming 2022-2023 academic year.

“During this preliminary, early stage in establishing the infrastructure and determining initial pursuits of the center, having a well-qualified, committed leader with a track record of representing nursing’s role in anti-racism is essential. We are excited that Dr. McLemore expressed interest in helping us launch this center initiative by serving as the interim director as part of joining our faculty community,” said Executive Dean Azita Emami of the School of Nursing.

Community-engaged listening sessions for the center were completed this past spring and feedback will guide the first phase of the center’s work, including a longer-term leadership structure. Dr. McLemore’s agreement to lead the center is being administratively finalized. The projected start date for appointing the center’s interim director is anticipated for July 16, 2022, with a projected end date slated for June 30, 2023.
