Seattle Public School Nurses and Student Health Services selected as UW Health Sciences MLK, Jr. Service Award.

The UW School of Nursing is proud to announce that the Seattle Public School Nurses and Student Health Services will receive the annual UW Health Sciences Martin Luther King Jr. Service Award.

Each year, the UW Health Sciences Schools and Administration pay tribute to Dr. King with an annual celebration honoring his life and legacy. At this annual event, each UW Health Sciences School honors a member or group from among its students, staff, faculty, or broader connected community who exemplify Dr. King’s principles through a commitment to addressing community needs, particularly for communities of color or low income, development and implementation of significant programs to improve the human condition, and outstanding efforts to protect and empower all individuals.

“Seattle Public School Nurses and Student Health Services is vital to the health of children in our communities.  Their efforts to address health inequities and disparities, as well as eliminate the “opportunity gap” represent the best in Nursing. Knowing that education is a major social determinant of health and predicts health status later in life, school nurses play a critical role for the well-being of our communities in the immediate and long-term,” said Dr. Azita Emami, executive dean of the UW School of Nursing.

The University of Washington Health Sciences Schools annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day celebration to recognize all award recipients will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2020, at 12:30pm in Hogness Auditorium (Room A-420) of the UW Warren G. Magnuson Health Sciences Center. This event is open to the public.
