Karin Huster Selected as one of the Top 50 for the Reach Award

November 20, 2019, Seattle – Karin Huster, UW School of Nursing alumna ‘05 and clinical instructor in the UW Department of Global Health and Child, Family and Population Health Nursing, was selected as one of the top 50 finalists for the Recognizing Excellence Around Champions of Health (REACH) Awards.

Huster is a field coordinator with Doctors without Borders, working to fight the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Huster has written editorials in the Seattle Times and New York Times about Ebola outbreaks.

“I am very thankful to Drs. Steve Gloyd and King Holmes for nominating me for this award, which recognizes, among other things, the critical work of ‘boots on the ground,’” Huster said. “There are many ‘boots on the ground’ much more deserving of this recognition than me.  Nevertheless,  it will serve to reaffirm my commitment to continue and improve on the work that I — with Doctors Without Borders — do on the ground to improve the health, lives, rights and dignity of people in need.”

The REACH awards recognizes individuals who have demonstrated extraordinary leadership and commitment in the field of disease elimination. From boots-on-the-ground innovators to local community health workers, the REACH Awards aim to celebrate critical contributions from those on the front lines of disease elimination. The awards underscore the belief of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed that no one should suffer from a preventable disease.
