Brenda Zierler Recognized by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing

March 24, 2019 Seattle—The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) honored UW School of Nursing Professor, Brenda Zierler, PhD, RN, FAAN, with the Geraldine “Polly” Bednash Lectureship Award at the AACN Deans Annual Meeting held in Washington, DC from March 23 to 26, 2019.

“Brenda’s critical work fostering collaboration in healthcare teams and education distinguishes her as an exceptional faculty member. I’m so pleased that the AACN is recognizing her with the Bednash Lectureship Award. Her leadership and research contributions are highly valued, “ stated Azita Emami, PhD, MSN, BSN, RN, FAAN, and the Robert G. and Jean A. Reid Executive Dean of the UW School of Nursing.

Since 2008, Zierler has served as Director of Research, Training and Faculty Development for the UW Center for Health Sciences Interprofessional Education, Research, and Practice. The center aims to improve healthcare by facilitating collaboration between professions through education, training initiatives and faculty development, and evaluative research. Zierler is currently working to better care for patients with cardiovascular diseases by improving collaborative practice in an accountable care organization.

The Geraldine “Polly” Bednash Lectureship Award is named in honor of Dr. Polly Bednash, who served as executive director of the AACN from 1989 to 2014. The award recognizes individuals based on their scholarship and contributions to nursing, health care, higher education and interprofessional education. As a part of the award, recipients are asked to address deans at the annual meeting. Dr. Zierler’s lecture is titled: “Leadership and Scholarship: The Future of IPE.”
