- Jamie Young, DNP, ARNP, RN, FNP-BC, assistant teaching professor in Biobehavioral Nursing & Health Informatics, was selected as a fellow for the 2024–2026 Evidence-Based Teaching Program offered by the UW Center for Teaching and Learning.
- Assistant Professor Omeid Heidari, PhD, MPH, ANP-C, co-authored “Colocating Syringe Services, COVID-19 Vaccination, And Infectious Disease Testing: Baltimore’s Experience” in the Health Affairs theme issue on reimagining public health.
- Basia Belza, PhD, RN, FAAN, FGSA, professor and director of the de Tornyay Center for Healthy Aging, was interviewed by Yahoo Life Senior Editor Erin Donnelly for “Is mall walking the summer’s coolest exercise?” The article highlights research by Belza and her team on mall walking.
- Monica Oxford, MSW, PhD, research professor in Child, Family, and Population Health Nursing, and colleagues Idan Shalev of Penn State and Carrie Dow-Smith of WakeMed received National Institutes of Health R01 funding for “The Impact of Stress and Caregiver Sensitivity on Infant Cellular Aging in a Population of Under-Resourced Families: A Randomized Controlled Trial.” The study examines Promoting First Relationships (PFR), an evidence-based program disseminated through the Parent-Child Relationships Program at the UW School of Nursing’s Barnard Center for Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health.
- A randomized trial co-authored by Professor Pamela Kohler evaluated the effectiveness of using patient actors to role-play counseling for PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) services provided to adolescent girls and young women in Kenya, a population disproportionately affected by HIV in the region. - Professor Betty Bekemeier co-chaired a National Institute of Nursing Research working group on climate change and health research. Students
- Third-year PhD student Emily Ahrens received an F31 award (F31NR021096) from the National Institute of Nursing Research for “Examination of Health Disparities in ICU Delirium Prevention and Management for Patients Who Speak a Language Other Than English.” The award supports completion of her dissertation and PhD training. Her committee and consulting team includes faculty from the UW School of Nursing and School of Medicine as well as faculty at the University of Nebraska and The Ohio State University.
- PhD student Pregamon Kuntajak, MSN, BSN, RN, received a grant from the Sigma Theta Tau Psi-at-Large Chapter for a proposed project focused on psychological resilience among older adults following mild-to-moderate traumatic brain injury.
- Doctor of Nursing Practice student Rachel Anderson was recognized as a 2023–2024 Fulbright Scholar.
