Costs & financial support

Tuition rates for the 2026-27 academic year

Understanding the cost of your education is an important part of planning for graduate or undergraduate study. Tuition varies by program and funding model, and financial support may be available to help you meet the cost of your education.

Some UW Nursing programs are tuition-based, with different rates for Washington state residents and non-residents. Others are fee-based and charge the same rate regardless of residency.

Please note: Tuition and fee rates are subject to change.

Tuition-based programs

Tuition-based programs have different rates for Washington state residents and non-residents. Rates are determined by the UW Office of Planning & Budgeting and include tuition (consisting of the operating fee and building fee) as well as the Student Technology Fee, Services & Activities Fee, IMA Bond Fee, Facilities Renovation Fee and U-PASS Fee. These fees support services available to students as part of their enrollment.

Visit the UW undergraduate or graduate tuition dashboards for a detailed breakdown of tuition and additional fees included in these rates.

Quarterly tuition by program and residency
Program Resident Non-resident
Bachelor of Science in Nursing $4,625/quarter $15,263/quarter
Doctor of Nursing Practice — state tuition tracks (PNP-AC*, PNP-PC*, PHSL*, PMHNP*) $12,082/quarter $17,238/quarter
Graduate certificates — state tuition (APEOH, PHE, PNP-AC*, PNP-PC*) $12,082/quarter $17,238/quarter

*PHSL, PNP-AC, PNP-PC, and PMHNP DNP tracks and certificates (if available) follow the state tuition model for cohorts that began Autumn 2025 and earlier. Beginning with the Autumn 2026 cohort, those specialty tracks follow a fee-based tuition model (see below).

Fee-based programs

Fee-based programs are self-sustaining programs administered in partnership with UW Continuum College – Professional & Continuing Education (PCE). Course fees are charged by quarter or credit and are the same for Washington state residents and non-residents.

Visit the Office of the University Registrar Fee-Based Program FAQs for additional information about fee-based programs.

Tuition exemption for UW and Washington state employees

If you are a UW employee or eligible State of Washington employee, you may qualify for the UW tuition exemption program.

Eligible employees who work at least 50% FTE may use tuition exemption to take a limited number of credits each quarter without paying the same tuition and fees as students who are not using the benefit.

To use tuition exemption, you must apply to UW in either matriculated or non-matriculated status, be admitted and maintain active status. You must also submit the appropriate tuition exemption form and pay the required fee before each quarter in which you use the benefit. A technology fee is charged per credit of enrollment.

Visit the UW Tuition Exemption Status page for requirements, deadlines and instructions.

Yes. You are responsible for the initial UW application fee and a quarterly tuition-exemption registration fee. You will also be charged a technology fee for each credit in which you enroll.

Visit the UW Tuition Exemption page for current details.

The following School of Nursing courses do not qualify for tuition exemption:

  • ALL NCLIN courses
  • NMETH 598, 600, 700, 800, 801
  • NURS 499, 599
  • Any course offered through UW Professional & Continuing Education (PCE)

Enrollment in School of Nursing courses not listed above may still be restricted for students who are not matriculated in a School of Nursing program.

If you are not a current UW School of Nursing student, contact the Office of Student and Academic Affairs before attempting to use your tuition exemption benefit:
