Five University of Washington School of Nursing students were recognized as scholarship recipients by the King County Nurses Association (KCNA) during its 123rd Annual Gala on May 14, 2026, at Cedarbrook Lodge in SeaTac.
The annual event, held during National Nurses Month, brought together nurses, nursing students, and healthcare leaders from across the region for an evening of celebration, networking, and support for the nursing profession. The gala also honored scholarship recipients and Shining Star Nurse awardees while raising funds to support future nursing student scholarships.
UW students recognized by KCNA this year included Wing Yin Cheung, David Drew, Mariama Darboe, Van Tran, and Madhav Khanal. Three of the students — Cheung, Drew, and Darboe — attended the gala and were recognized during the evening’s program.
The recognition reflects the students’ dedication to nursing education, leadership, and service. KCNA scholarships help support the next generation of nurses as they prepare to address the evolving healthcare needs of communities throughout King County and beyond.
The University of Washington School of Nursing congratulates Wing Yin Cheung, David Drew, Mariama Darboe, Van Tran, and Madhav Khanal on this well-deserved honor and thanks the King County Nurses Association for its continued investment in nursing students and the future of the profession.
