Alisha Bhimani
Assistant Teaching Professor
Child, Family, and Population Health Nursing
Dr. Alisha Bhimani currently serves as an Assistant Teaching Professor at the University of Washington School of Nursing. A certified Family and Emergency Nurse Practitioner, she is dedicated to advancing health equity by providing compassionate, evidence-based care in limited-resource settings, with a focus on refugees, immigrants, and uninsured populations at HealthPoint in Auburn, Washington.
Before joining UW, Dr. Bhimani taught across the pre-licensure and post-licensure curricula at Emory University’s Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing, where she is a three-time alumna. Her international work with the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) in Tajikistan focused on developing and implementing innovative health communication training for clinicians, improving patient safety in some of the most remote and underserved regions of Central Asia.
Her scholarly interests center on global health equity, the role of social determinants of health (SDOH) in patient outcomes, and the advancement of competency-based education in nursing. She has published in peer-reviewed journals, authored research-to-practice columns, and actively collaborates on interdisciplinary projects addressing refugee and immigrant health, cross-cultural communication, and innovative nursing education models.
At UW, Dr. Bhimani teaches across the DNP curriculum - including pharmacology and primary care clinical courses - and is deeply engaged in curriculum development, mentorship, and programmatic initiatives aligned with the AACN Essentials and NONPF competencies. She is committed to fostering inclusive, supportive learning environments where nurse practitioner students can thrive as compassionate, culturally responsive clinicians.
Through her leadership, teaching, and scholarship, Dr. Bhimani continues to strengthen the UW School of Nursing’s mission to prepare nurse leaders who advance health for all communities, locally and globally.
