Dr. Tsai’s research focuses on two primary areas. Her main line of research examines the sociocultural determinants of mental and physical health among Asian immigrants, with the goal of designing effective, theory-driven community interventions to promote the health of the U.S. Asian immigrant workforce. She has received funding to explore critical sociocultural factors affecting the health and work performance of Chinese and Filipino immigrant workers, with a focus on disseminating and implementing worker health education in community settings.
Her second line of research, building on her community-based work, focuses on dissemination and implementation science, specifically how community organizations can adopt scientific information to enhance organizational and community capacity for health equity. In addition to her work with Asian immigrant workers, Dr. Tsai is a co-investigator on Dr. Souza’s community-based participatory research projects addressing homelessness in older adults.
Dr. Tsai is a versatile researcher, skilled in both qualitative and advanced quantitative methods. Her expertise includes qualitative and critical theory research, cross-cultural research inquiry (particularly in language, translation, and cross-cultural instrumentation), program evaluation, and advanced quantitative techniques such as structural equation modeling and social network analysis.
In addition to her research, Dr. Tsai is actively involved in both undergraduate and graduate education. She regularly provides programmatic consultation, direct services, and technical support to local immigrant community organizations on a volunteer basis. She also serves as a reviewer for academic journals and federal grant panels.
