JESSIE MARKS
Child, Family, and Population Health Nursing
Associate Teaching Professor
Clinical Placement Coordinator
Co-Lead APPN Tracks
After earning my Doctor of Nursing Practice degree, I worked as a Pediatric Hospitalist in Eastern Washington. This role provided me with valuable experience in managing both late-preterm and term newborns, as well as conducting well-child visits and same-day access visits. I also had the opportunity to work evenings and weekends, which allowed me to gain urgent care skills such as splinting and burn care. I remained in this clinical practice for two years before transitioning to another pediatric primary care practice due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
I have been teaching in the Graduate Pediatric Track for three years, instructing in clinical lab and seminar courses as well as pediatric-specific didactic courses. I re-developed the NSG 539 Newborn Management course and have taught across all years of the DNP program (1st, 2nd, and 3rd years). My teaching experience spans midwifery, family nurse practitioner, and pediatric nurse practitioner students. During this time, I have also coordinated clinical placements for pediatric primary and acute care students.
Additionally, I coordinated a pediatric specialty infusion clinic, where I managed care across various specialties and focused on meeting the needs of a diverse patient population through interprofessional collaboration (including social work support, child life services, etc.).
After three years of clinical experience, I returned to Western Washington, where I worked as a rotating provider in a pediatric primary care practice. This role allowed me to work across eight clinic locations throughout the greater Bellevue area, where I built upon my clinical skills and managed numerous well-child and acute care cases.
