I started my first job on the Postpartum/Newborn Unit of UW Medical Center in the fall of 1990 as an RN2. UWMC is a very interesting place to work, and I was consistently challenged by patient care situations. I found several nurse mentors at UWMC who have influenced the course of my career.
I began teaching childbirth classes in 1992 and am still currently teaching them. I have specialized in teaching the Preventing Preterm Birth and Expecting Multiples Childbirth Classes since 1997, first for UWMC and currently for Great Starts. In 1993, I was promoted to Co-Coordinator of Childbirth Education at UWMC, a position I held as a job share until 2000.
I have worked as a Per-Diem RN at UWMC since 2000, in the Maternity and Infant Care Clinic (high-risk OB clinic) and the Employee Health Clinic. I taught ADN OB nursing students in the early '90s for a few years but returned to teaching OB ADN and BSN clinical nursing students in the fall of 2012 for three schools, including the UW School of Nursing.
In the summer of 2015, I accepted the Lead Clinical Instructor role at the UW School of Nursing for BSN and ABSN courses NCLIN 416 (Maternity Clinical) and NCLIN 411 (Senior Practicum Clinical), respectively.
