Paula Cox-North

I earned my ADN from North Central Michigan College and worked as an RN in mostly acute care hospital settings. I earned my BSN from Gonzaga University, then my MSN from the University of Washington. I obtained certification as an Adult Nurse Practitioner and worked in specialty care settings primarily Gastroenterology and Hepatology. I then returned to the University of Washington and completed my Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree. My dissertation was focused on end-of-life communication in end-stage liver disease. I have continued to work clinically while teaching and pursuing research activities. I have taught in both the undergraduate BSN and ASBN programs and graduate DNP program. I enjoy teaching pharmacology, graduate seminar, and graduate immersion courses the most. I remain clinically active working in an outpatient Gastroenterology/Hepatology clinic that primarily cares for underserved and vulnerable patients. My research interests are in liver related diseases, chronic illness symptom management and vulnerable populations which meshes nicely with my clinical practice.
