I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Biobehavioral Nursing and Health Informatics, and I hold the Harborview Medical Center Endowed Professorship in Critical Care. My program of research has focused on developing knowledge related to symptom management—specifically sleep disturbance, fatigue, depression, and impaired cognition—as well as underlying biological mechanisms that evoke these symptoms in persons with stroke, including those with subarachnoid hemorrhage. I have also identified the symptom experiences of family caregivers of persons with stroke. Currently, I am developing a technology-based intervention to support symptom self-management among subarachnoid hemorrhage survivors. My work has been funded by the National Institutes of Health/National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (R56HL167681), the National Institutes of Health/National Institute of Nursing Research (K23NR017404), the John A. Hartford Foundation, and the Neuroscience Nursing Foundation. I have a clinical background in neuro critical care. My research and clinical experiences to date have fueled my desire to contribute to the improvement of health and quality of life in persons with stroke as well as their family members.
