Dear School of Nursing Community,
Welcome to a new academic year at the University of Washington School of Nursing! After attending the faculty retreat and amazing student orientation, I am inspired, hopeful and alive to the possibilities of the season that is upon us. Whether you’re starting, continuing or finishing your journey, we are thrilled you are part of our #HuskyNurse community.
As a school, we are poised at the intersection of nursing science, nursing practice, nursing education, and policy leadership committed to improving the health of all Washingtonians.
I am proud of our community that encompasses and extends from our campuses in Seattle, Bothell and Tacoma, to our clinical instructors and partners and throughout Washington state.
As we pursue a more equitable, innovative, and impactful nursing community together, we also hold close our commitment to engage and expand our community of scholars, practitioners and educators. The excellence of our institution does not make us exclusive — it makes us the ideal place for individuals who seek to make a positive impact in nursing.
We all have an important role in this work and you are part of our continued success. Because of you, we can realize our shared vision for the future of health care — a vision where everyone has equitable access to the highest quality care, much of it provided by nurses; and where nursing is relied upon as a powerful advocate for the greater wellness of our world. Your dedication to nursing and to the UW School of Nursing transforms this vision into reality.
This is an audacious vision, a compelling vision and an attainable vision. Nurses have had a uniquely resonant influence on our understanding of health and wellness — individually and as a society. At UW School of Nursing, discovery and learning intersect in a microcosm of that vision. Each year, it is my greatest joy to bear witness to how we disrupt the status quo in audacious and irreverent but also wholly fruitful ways.
We are an institution whose shared optimism for a better future is only outmatched by our relentless actions to create that future. One in which we, as nurses, use our holistic lens to lead a movement to ensure that all Washingtonians have e quitable access to the highest quality care .
Whether you are a returning student, a new student, faculty, staff, supporter or alum – thank you for being here . I look forward to the wonderful work we will accomplish together in the upcoming academic year.
Warm regards,
Allison R. Webel, PhD, RN, FAAN
