If you’d like to leave a legacy with our School, you can consider one of these options:
- Bequests. You can use your will to make a significant commitment.
- Charitable gift annuities or charitable trusts. You can receive income during your lifetime.
- Gifts of real estate. You can eliminate the burden of caring for unwanted property.

Gift Types
The University of Washington separates donor contributions into two categories: endowed gifts and current-use gifts. These types, both highly useful to the UW School of Nursing, serve different purposes.
Endowments: a reliable source of revenue. When you make an endowed gift, the University invests the principal and uses the interest to benefit the program or department you designate. Endowments are permanent funds, so they’re useful in establishing long-term, sustainable resources. Depending on the type of support you wish to provide, creating an endowment takes a minimum investment of $25,000, payable over five (or fewer) years.
Current-use: an immediate source of revenue. Current-use funds are useful in providing immediate support for programs, operations, renovation and construction, and there’s no minimum investment requirement.
About pledges
Whether you give to an endowment or to a current-use fund, you have the option of making a pledge, which allows your gift to be paid over a set schedule (up to five years).
Your gift may be tax deductible as charitable contributions for federal tax purposes as allowed by IRS regulations. The UW Foundation’s federal tax ID is 94-3079432. Gifts of securities (tax ID 91-6001537) may have additional tax benefits. See UW’s FAQ page for more information.
