Tuition rates for the 2024-25 academic year

We work with current and prospective students to be transparent and connect them to the assistance they need because we understand the challenges of paying for and funding higher education goals.

Tuition rates for 2024-25 are determined by a various factors. For example, undergraduate and graduate programs have different rates. Some programs are tuition-based and charge different rates for Washington and non-Washington residents. Some are fee-based programs and charge the same rate regardless of your state of residence. See more details below, and please note that rates are subject to change.

Tuition-based programs

The following tuition-based programs include different rates for Washington state residents and non-resident students. Rates are determined by the UW Office of Planning & Budgeting and include tuition (comprised of the operating and building fee), the Student Technology Fee, the Services & Activities Fee, IMA Bond Fee, Facilities Renovation Fee, and U-PASS Fee. These fees correspond with services provided to students as part of their enrollment. We encourage you to visit the undergraduate or graduate tuition dashboards for a detailed breakdown of tuition and additional fees included in these rates.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing $4,325/quarter $14,403/quarter

We encourage you to visit the Office of the University Registrar Fee-Based Program FAQs page for more information.

Are you a current UW employee?

You may qualify for tuition exemption!

As a benefit for UW employees and some State of Washington employees, tuition exemption allows you to take a limited number of credits each quarter without paying the same tuition and fees as non-exempt students at the University of Washington.

To take advantage of this benefit, you must apply to UW for either non-matriculated or matriculated status, be admitted, and maintain active status. Each quarter, you’ll need to submit the appropriate tuition exemption form and pay the required fee in advance. Please note that a technology fee will also be charged per credit of enrollment.

Please visit the UW Tuition Exemption Status page for guidelines and details.

Yes, there is a cost to initially apply to the UW and a quarterly fee to sign up for tuition exemption. You will also be charged a technology fee, which is charged per credit of enrollment. Visit the UW Tuition Exemption Status page for details.

The following School of Nursing courses do not qualify for tuition exemption:

  • ALL NCLIN courses
  • NMETH 598, 600, 700, 800, 801
  • NURS 499, 599
  • Any course offered through UW Professional & Continuing Education (PCE)

Enrollment in School of Nursing courses not included in this list may or may not be open to enrollment if you are NOT a matriculating School of Nursing student. If you are not a current UW School of Nursing student, please contact the Office of Student and Academic Affairs before attempting to use your tuition exemption benefit: asknursing@uw.edu or 206.543.8736.

You only need to apply once to the UW if you maintain continuous enrollment in the same status (summer quarter excepted). However, you must apply for tuition exemption prior to each quarter in which you intend to use it.
