The University of Washington (UW) is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities and is a member of the Association of American Universities. The UW School of Nursing offers five degree programs—the BSN, MN, MS, DNP, and PhD—as well as a fast-track bachelor’s program, ABSN, and a Graduate Certificate Program approved by the UW Graduate School through a regular review and GCP self-study process. The baccalaureate degree in nursing, master’s degree in nursing, Doctor of Nursing Practice, and post-graduate APRN certificate programs at the University of Washington are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (http://www.ccneaccreditation.org).

In addition to NWCCU and CCNE accreditation, the Nurse-Midwifery DNP and Graduate Certificate programs are fully accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education (formerly ACNM Division of Accreditation).

The Pediatric Nurse Practitioner DNP tracks are approved/recognized by the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB).

Program licensure and certification disclosure

Under federal Title IV regulation 35 CFR § 668.43(a)(5)(v), institutions are required to disclose “if an educational program is designed to meet educational requirements for a specific professional license or certification that is required for employment in an occupation, or is advertised as meeting such requirements.”

The table below includes information about whether UW School of Nursing programs meet the education requirements for professional nursing licensure in a given state. Students are encouraged to be proactive in reviewing local and national requirements for their chosen practice, as certification and licensure requirements vary by state over time. Licensure requirements by state may be accessed on the National Council of State Boards of Nursing website or by clicking on individual state links in the tables below.

The table below includes information about whether UW School of Nursing programs meet the education requirements for professional nursing licensure in a given state. APRN licensure often requires national certification in the APRN role and population focus as well as state RN licensure. Students are encouraged to be proactive in reviewing local and national requirements for their chosen practice, as certification and licensure requirements vary by state over time.

Note: Iowa and Washington use the Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) title instead of Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN). Washington state will adopt the APRN title starting June 30, 2027.
