The de Tornyay Center for Healthy Aging is committed to improving the lives of older adults locally and globally. We partner with community organizations to host informational seminars, events, discussions, and more. Our faculty are members of local and national associations and research centers and often are featured speakers or guest lecturers.
Our community partners include:
- The Gerontological Professionals Network (GPN): linking the UW School of Nursing and community colleagues with interest and expertise in gerontology and geriatrics. The GPN is open and inclusive of professionals working in gerontology and geriatrics. Students interested in working with older adults are also welcome. Prospective new members can be added to the listserv by e-mailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
- The Northwest Chapter of the National Gerontological Nursing Association: the de Tornyay Center sponsored the charter of the Northwest Chapter of the National Gerontological Nursing Association recognized by the national organization in March of 2013.
- The de Tornyay Center partners with multiple agencies and facilities to provide services for older adults. For example, our partnership with Era Living has allowed residents to benefit from the latest industry research and innovative Wellness and Active Aging programs for more than two decades.
- Northwest Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Center: de Tornyay Center Director Dr. Barbara Cochrane is the associate director of this brand-new UW Center developed to increase the expertise of primary-care providers, trainees and others in caring for older adults.
