Advanced Practice Pediatric Nursing
The Advanced Practice Pediatric Nursing (APPN) graduate certificate is an option for experienced advanced practice nurses to expand their scope of practice and develop skills and knowledge needed to care for infants to young adults across the health spectrum.
This graduate certificate is for individuals who are looking to expand their existing scope of practice as an APRN and are currently a clinical nurse specialist, nurse practitioner or nurse anesthetist.
Students who are interested in pediatric study but are not yet advanced practice nurses, including nurse educators, nurse informaticists and nurse leaders, should apply through one of our Doctor of Nursing Practice tracks:
You will develop an individualized program of study to supplement prior coursework in preparation for board certification as a Primary Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner or a Pediatric Clinical Nurse Specialist.
The typical program of study is four to five quarters, though this will vary by student. Programs of study generally require one day per week of on-campus time as well as one to three days per week of clinical practicum.
After completion of the graduate certificate, you are eligible to apply for certification as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner or a Pediatric Clinical Nurse Specialist through either the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB).
