Legislative Advocacy Day

Make your voice heard on Legislative Advocacy Day on Thursday, February 4.  Advocacy is a pillar of nursing. Nurses are advocates for their patients, workplaces, and communities. Legislative and political advocacy is critical to advancing the profession, research and patient care. Here are few resources to get you started:

Learn about the issues. Both the American Nursing Association and Washington State Nurses Association provide a list of legislative priorities and why they are important for nurses to advocate for:

Find your legislative district and representatives. Knowing who to talk to is just as important as knowing what to talk about.
Learn about the legislative process and how to get involved.  Leg 101 offered by WSNA Continuing Education (free for nursing students) breaks down how to read and track bills, follow policy leaders, and cultivate relationships with your legislators.
