Congratulations to Kelsey Hirsch, Nursing Magnuson Scholar
Azita Emami
It is my honor to announce this year’s Warren G. Magnuson Scholar for Nursing: Kelsey Hirsch, a PhD student.
The University names six Magnuson Scholars each year, one from each of the six UW health sciences schools. The Magnuson Scholars are selected on the basis of their academic performance and their potential contributions to research in the health sciences.
Kelsey is a third-year doctoral candidate. She earned her a Bachelor of Nursing from Seattle University in August 2013 and began developing her skills as a pediatric nurse. As a medical-surgical nurse, she provided holistic care for transplant patients, while working to provide care to families on antepartum, labor and delivery units. Her clinical experience also included providing care for adults in an infusion unit to caring for children in a transplant clinic.
Her dissertation research examines incarcerated individuals with an emphasis on health care access while inside prison related to chronic illness management. She is developing an intervention focused on behavioral changes to help incarcerated individuals manage their health care. Ultimately, these behavioral interventions will lead to increased self-efficacy when individuals are released from prison.
Please join me in congratulating Kelsey on her success!
