New dashboard from UW School of Nursing team centralizes toddler immunization data

The Public Health Activities and Services Tracking (PHAST) team from the UW School of Nursing has released a brand-new data visualization dashboard that makes it easier to compare toddler immunization completeness percentages between counties and states, as well as over time. The dashboard consolidates county-level data from multiple states into a central location, where users can compare the data to answer—and raise—key questions about how to improve toddler immunization completeness.

“Public health leaders, practitioners and researchers are identifying a wide array of uses for this dashboard,” said Betty Bekemeier, UW School of Nursing Kirby & Ellery Cramer Endowed Professor and is PI of the PHAST team. Bekemeier is also Director of the Northwest Center for Public Health Practice (NWCPHP) at the UW School of Public Health.

Public health practitioners, researchers, and other users can navigate maps and other visual tools to explore how county and state rates compare, how immunization completeness has changed over time, which regions may need more resources, and how far counties and states have come toward reaching goals. Increasing immunization rates is a key goal of Healthy People 2020. The dashboard includes data from 14 states—a number which may increase as interest in the value of comparable, standardized immunization data grows.
