Associate Professor Oleg Zaslavsky’s work funded through his NIA R03 grant is about preventable hospitalizations in people with dementia and what they can do about that. Below is a short description:

In this study of older people with diabetes, they found higher admission rates of hospitalizations deemed potentially preventable (PPH) among persons with dementia compared with those without dementia, especially for hospitalizations that involve diabetes complications, dehydration, and urinary tract infections (UTI). Their findings suggest that people with diabetes and dementia may benefit from a more anticipatory model of care focusing on monitoring and avoiding complications that lead to hospitalizations.
