Faculty updates
Professor Emerita Marjorie Batey and the Aljoya Endowed Professor of Aging, Basia Belza, Biobehavioral Nursing and Health Informatics, were inducted into the Western Academy of Nursing at the 2017 Western Institute of Nursing research conference.
Sarah Gimbel, Family and Child Nursing, will be the co-PI on two new NIH grants in global health; both will either adapt or scale up the Systems Analysis and Improvement Approach
Pam Mitchell, Biobehavioral Nursing and Health Informatics, will receive the WSNA Professional Nursing and Health Care Council Nurse Researcher Award
Ardith Doorenbos, Biobehavioral Nursing and Health Informatics, George Demiris, Biobehavioral Nursing and Health Informatics, and Tatiana Sadak, Psychosocial and Community Health Nursing, were featured speakers at the 2017 PNW Palliative Care Conference

Carolyn Chow, Student and Academic Services, won the AACN’s Graduate Nursing Admissions Professionals Jackie Min Best Practices in Graduate Nursing Recruiting award at their annual conference in April
Sarah Zangrillo, Office for Nursing Research, has been named the new Grants and Contracts Specialist and Manager for the Office for Nursing Research
Student updates
Magnuson Scholar: Afnan Al Swayan, PhD candidate, was named the 2017 – 2018 Magnuson Scholar form the UW School of Nursing. Al Swayan is working with Professor Cindy Dougherty to study patient well being after sudden cardiac arrest.
WIN Best Poster: Carol Liberato, PhD candidate, won Best Poster at the Western Institute for Nursing conference. She is also working with Professor Cindy Dougherty to study the effects of an adjunct therapy, spironolactone, after patients receive implantable cardioverter defibrillators. Download her poster.
King County Nurses Association Scholarships: Nursing students Rafael Achacoso, Kristen Cromar, Hannah Jeong, Nina Cole, Meghann Miller, Melissa Ebben and Jacquelyn Hermer will receive scholarships at the KCNA Spring Banquet, Thursday May 11 from 5:30 – 9 p.m. at the Ballard Bay Club.
