The UW School of Nursing is pleased to announce the 2017 University of Washington School of Nursing teaching and students awards.
Excellence in Teaching Award recipients are:
- Rheba de Tornyay Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching Award: Amy Walker, PhD, RN
The award criteria includes a clear and engaging teaching style, professionalism and personal contributions.
Nominees also included: Rizza Cea and Gaylene Altman
- Sandra Eyres Excellence in Graduate Teaching Award: George Demiris, PhD, FACMI
The award criteria includes a clear and engaging teaching style, professionalism and personal contributions.
Nominees also included: Doris Boutain and C. June Strickland
- Excellence in Promoting Diversity through Teaching Award: C. June Strickland, PhD, RN
The award criteria includes subject matter knowledge, a commitment to diversity, respect for all, values students, and develops a flexible and inclusive teaching style.
Nominees also included: Wendy Barrington, Basia Belza and Rebecca O’Connor
- Excellence in Clinical Teaching Award: Winnie Deechakawan Miller
The award criteria includes the quality of student Interactions and the teaching approach.
Nominees also included: Patricia Betrus, Kerryn Reding, Sindy Jo, Angela Forbes and C. June Strickland
- DAISY faculty award: Elaine Walsh, PhD, RN, PMHCNS-BC
The DAISY Award was established to celebrate the extraordinary compassion nurses provide their patients and families every day. The award honors great clinical skill and leadership as well as strong patient care and compassion.
Nominees also included: Susan Landis, Frances Lewis, Patricia Betrus, Sheryl Rasmussen, C. June Strickland, Kathy Kroening, Melanie Summerour, Julie Hueffed, Jennifer Sonney, Doris Boutain and Michael Grodesky
Outstanding Academic Achievement Student Award recipients are:
- Undergraduate Nursing Achievement Award: Jessica Medrala
The award criteria includes contributions to the community, leadership and exceptional care for others.
Hilary Cohen was also nominated.
- Master of Nursing Outstanding Student Award: Creseta Simmons
The award criteria includes the application of theory to practice, creativity, scholarship, professional potential, leadership and contributions to the community.
Nominees also included: Jillian Eaker and Kate Lowe
- Master of Science Outstanding Student Award: Samantha Schmidt and Kaitlin Henningsen
The award criteria includes the application of theory to practice, creativity, scholarship, professional potential, leadership and contributions to the community.
Neris Milagro Nieves-Robbins was also nominated.
- Doctor of Nursing Practice Outstanding Student Award: Maren Mann
The award criteria includes leadership, clinical competency and outstanding contributions to the School of Nursing.
- Dissertation Award in Nursing Science: Ellita Williams
The award criteria includes research contribution, creativity and the scientific significance of the research.
Nominees also included: Nai-Ching Chi, Minhui Liu, Ashley Scherman and Linda Sharee Squires
- DAISY in Training Award: Hilary Cohen
The award criteria includes outstanding compassionate care provided to patients and families by nursing students when they are working in direct care.
Congratulations to these faculty members and students for their outstanding achievements! Awardees will be recognized at the UW School of Nursing Convocation.
