Daniel Suárez Baquero PhD, MSN, RN

Assistant Professor

I am from Colombia, I obtained my MSN and BSN from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, focused on Maternal and Perinatal Nursing Care. I have expertise as a labor and birth nurse, nurse midwife, and nurse administrator. I obtained my Ph.D. in Nursing at The University of Texas at Austin, studying the essence of Colombian Partería Tradicional (lay midwifery). Also, I worked as a postdoctoral fellow in the ACTIONS program at The University of California San Francisco focused on reproductive justice as the primary approach to reproductive health services provision. Since I was an undergraduate student, I developed a deep passion for qualitative research methods, specially working on reproductive justice, Latine reproductive health experiences, and community/cultural memory of ethnic minoritized women. I use advanced qualitative methods to enhance the voices of minoritized communities that have been overlooked to promote health, birth equity, and reproductive justice globally.

The opportunity to share, mentor, and care for the future generation of Nurses and midwives, from the undergraduate to the graduate school. I am convinced we can change the future towards a more equitable and healing one for all of us. In the UW School of Nursing I find a place in where my ideas and I are welcome. UW School of Nursing cherishes all diverse and divergent members of our community, opening a space for all of us. The UW School of Nursing commitment on teaching, practice, and mentoring enables the building of a thought-provoking environment framed by Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Antiracism.
