Service Description

The School of Nursing provides Faculty and Staff the ability to access SoN resources through Remote Desktop Services technology.  There are two available options.

  1. Remote into your work desktop PC.  If you have a desktop machine and remote desktop services is enabled, you can access it from any device with a Microsoft Remote Desktop services client installed on it.  The benefit of this option is that you get your personal desktop experience - all of your settings will be there.
  2. Remote Desktop Services.  A server-based solution that provides remote virtual desktop service to connecting users. You can connect to your files and use commonly deployed software in the SoN like Microsoft Office but the experience is configured in such a way to limit end-user changes since it is a shared service.  This is the service to use if you do not have a permanent desktop available at work.

How to Order 

PC remote desktop can be set up by the end user, or with TIER's assistance.

To use Remote Desktop Services, point your remote desktop client at  Once you are finished using the service, please log off as opposed to disconnecting to free up connections for other users and to ensure that you do not leave any files locked.


Service is available 24 hours per day 7 days a week. Support is available during business hours. This service may experience periodic outages for maintenance, service, or unexpected incidents. 


No charges.

Service Level Description

The SoN Remote Desktop Service is targeted as an always available service with minimal downtime. Systems are monitored 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for disruptions. On-call staff are available for outage resolution. User support is available during business hours only.
