Sleep Disorders and Sleep Promotion in Nursing, which includes chapters by School of Nursing Faculty Carol Landis, Professor, Dept. of Biobehavioral Nursing and Health Systems, and Teresa Ward, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Family and Child Nursing, received an AJN Book of the Year award for 2011.

The two faculty contributed to the award-winning book, edited by Nancy S. Redeker and Geoffry Phillips McEnany. Landis’s chapter is titled “Psychological and Behavioral aspect of sleep” and Ward’s chapter is titled “Conducting a sleep assessment.”

According to the book review, “the well-written book provides a thorough exploration of sleep disorders and nursing care and guidelines to assist in the workup for sleep disturbances. As many geriatric patients experience such disorders, it’s extremely relevant for nurses caring for this population.”

Joie Whitney, Associate Dean for Research and Professor, Biobehavioral Nursing and Health Systems, also contributed to an AJN Book of the Year winner in the Medical-Surgical Nursing Category, Acute and Chronic Wounds. Her chapters were titled "Perfusion and Oxygenation" and "Surgical Wounds and Incision Care."
