Benefactor Donna Fraser Dies After Long Illness

Faculty, staff and students at the School mourn the passing of friend and benefactor Donna Fraser, who created an endowment to support both undergraduate and graduate students as they pursue their studies. Though not a nurse, Fraser had tremendous respect for nursing and created, through the Fraser Scholarship Fund, a vehicle to support nursing students in perpetuity.

At the time she notified the UW of her decision to support the School of Nursing, Dean Sue T. Hegyvary remarked that all who had come to know her as a result of her generosity had come away delighted by her "deep respect for the profession of nursing."

More recently, UW Development Officer Heather Abernathy commented that she felt "very privileged to have known Donna" and that her "compassion, humor and exuberant outlook on life were true gifts to all who knew her. I will miss her very much, and I know many others will too."

Fraser retired from Boeing in 1992 after 42 years of employment. She took great pleasure in her contact with students who were scholarship recipients, knowing that she had made a contribution that would so positively affect their lives. Friends and family ask that anyone interested in remembering Fraser with a memorial gift do so with a donation to the Fraser Scholarship Fund.
