The University of Washington Center for Research on Management of Sleep Disturbances (UW-CRMSD) was established August, 2009.

Margaret Heitkemper, PhD, RN, FAAN, and Michael V. Vitiello, PhD are the Co-Directors. The overall objective of the Sleep Center is to promote our research mission of addressing sleep disturbances through the development of interventions to improve sleep quality. This is done through the Biobehavioral Tool Core and four accompanying research projects as well as pilot projects. The Biobehavioral Tool Core focuses on the development of new laboratory instruments and techniques for conducting sleep research as well as the maintenance of existing ones.

The CRMSD is part of the University of Washington School of Nursing and is funded by the National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR), National Institutes of Health (NIH), grant # 1 P30 NR 011400-01.
