WHO: The NHSC has been helping bring health care to those who need it most for over 40 years. Today, there are nearly 8,900 NHSC members providing high quality care to more than 9.3 million people. This care is being provided at more than 5,100 NHSC-approved health care sites in urban, rural, and frontier areas across the U.S.
WHAT: Become an NHSC Ambassador, a cohort of dedicated volunteers who help educate and inform prospective NHSC members. These individuals give their time to help spread the word about the opportunities available through the NHSC and serve as additional local resources for current NHSC members. WHY: Many health professions students graduate with incredible amounts of student debt.
- In 2014, the NHSC anticipates awarding over 185 scholarships to students pursuing an eligible discipline. The scholarships pay tuition, fees, other educational costs, and provide a living stipend in return for a commitment to work at least 2 years at an approved outpatient facility in a medically underserved community.
- The NHSC also anticipates making 4,210 loan repayment awards to clinicians in exchange for their service at an NHSC-approved site. Awardees in 2014 can receive up to $50,000 in exchange for two-years of service. In addition, through the Students to Service Loan Repayment Program, specifically for 4th year medical students, we anticipate making 100 awards in 2014.
