Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)
The Graduate Certificate Program in Advanced Practice Nursing for Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners (PMHNP) offers an opportunity for nurses who have a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree to develop the knowledge and skills to broaden and deepen their psychiatric mental health and/or nurse practitioner competencies for PMHNP practice. Individualized plans of study supplement prior coursework and prepare students for the American Nurses Credentialing Center PMHNP exam.
In addition to satisfying the minimum general Graduate Certificate Program admissions requirements, the PMHNP Graduate Certificate Program is available to any nurse who already has a DNP in nursing and is particularly relevant to:
- advanced practice nurses with practice and educational background in psychiatric nursing who wish to become Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners, and/or
- Nurse Practitioners from varying specialties (e.g., FNP)
Prospective students should review the PMHNP Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) curriculum and compare this to any prior graduate coursework. This allows an estimation of what additional courses you will need to complete to earn the PMHNP certificate. A faculty advisor will assist in determining the exact plan of study.
Perinatal Mental Health Study Option
Students completing the PMHNP Certificate Program may choose to complete additional courses focusing on mental health knowledge and skills during pregnancy and postpartum phase:
