Nikela Harris

Cross-Cultural and Global Health

Nikela ("Niki") joined the exciting and unique field of nursing in 2008. She began her career working with a significantly ethnically and socioeconomically diverse group of patients at a safety-net hospital. This created in her a desire to further understand social determinants of health and to enhance her cultural understanding. Her clinical background is in medicine and cardiology. Working with medical and cardiac patients has peaked her interest in understanding how care coordination can be improved for those with chronic diseases. She’s been a part of several practice committees to work on quality improvement projects at the acute care level. Her dream job would be one where she could work on quality improvement and care coordination programs, particularly in regards to underserved populations. Eventually, she would also love to help cultivate future nurse leaders by becoming a nursing professor. When she is not studying or working, she loves to spend time with family and friends, volunteer at her church, dance, and explore the beautiful outdoors!

Nikela completed her Master's of Nursing in Winter, 2015. She is currently working as a ACO Complex Care RN for St. Alphonsus Medical Center in Boise, Idaho, which is a brand new case management position based in the community.
