Hi! My name is Nikela Harris, and I joined the exciting and unique field of nursing in 2008. I began my career working with a significantly ethnically and socioeconomically diverse group of patients at a safety-net hospital. This created in me a desire to further understand social determinants of health and to enhance my cultural understanding. My clinical background is in medicine and cardiology. Working with medical and cardiac patients has peaked my interest in understanding how care coordination can be improved for those with chronic diseases. I’ve been blessed to be a part of several practice committees to work on quality improvement projects at the acute care level. My dream job would be one where I could work on quality improvement and care coordination programs, particularly in regards to underserved populations. Eventually, I would also love to help cultivate future nurse leaders by becoming a nursing professor. When I’m not studying or working, I love to spend time with family and friends, volunteer at my church, dance, and explore the beautiful outdoors!
