Hujambo! My name is Lauren and I grew up in the mitten state of Michigan! My BSN was completed at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. Post graduation I stayed in Cleveland and worked in the Neuro ICU at the renowned Cleveland Clinic. I knew I wanted to get an advanced practice nursing degree after a couple years of nursing experience and my time working on the Gila River Indian Reservation in Arizona during my undergrad public health practicum really stirred my heart for working in the community and serving an underprivileged population. I moved to Seattle last August to start UW’s CHN program as a part time student. Currently I work as a travel RN at Swedish Medical Center.
It is my goal to graduate from UW with an extensive knowledge of community health systems and unique clinical experience. Following my Master’s degree I plan on applying for the Afya Boya fellowship program and complete a year of NGO/Public Health work with the University of Nairobi in Kenya. Najifunza Kiswahili (I am learning Swahili)! I hope this fellowship will open doors for me to continue international work as a nurse.
School and work keep me busy! When I have spare time I love to run, explore different areas around the Pacific Northwest, volunteer with the Public Health Reserve Corp, and attend church activities.
