The Graduate Certificate Program in Leadership prepares students to provide leadership at the individual and/or population level across healthcare settings. It is available to students who hold or are pursuing a graduate degree and is designed for completion in four part-time quarters of study.
The Graduate Certificate in Leadership is a 15-credit program that prepares matriculated graduate and post-graduate students to serve as leaders at a variety of levels. It includes core courses in foundations of care systems management and in nursing leadership, as well as elective coursework that allows students to focus on social justice, ethics, interdisciplinary teamwork, health policy, global health, and/or leadership. No independent study courses are possible.
While the Graduate Certificate in Leadership does not prepare students for certification, students may elect to take additional course work in order to meet professional goals related to the needs of their employers, or to pursue opportunities for career advancement or diversification, or to pursue preparation for leadership positions as nurse executives, managers, supervisors, or Clinical Nurse Leaders.
Objectives of the Graduate Certificate in Leadership program are for students to:
- Appraise leadership frameworks and philosophies applicable to micro- and macro-level healthcare delivery systems.
- Relate principles of social justice and ethics in considering how healthcare systems responsibly serve the needs of client populations.
- Evaluate organizational and systems leadership that is critical to the promotion of high quality and safe client care and that emphasizes ethical and critical decision-making.
