Susan Blackburn is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Family Child Nursing. Her teaching, research, service and practice activities focus on care of preterm and other high-risk infants and their families. Dr. Blackburn currently teaches courses focusing on content related to maternal, fetal and neonatal physiology, human embryology and genetics, and neonatal nursing. Her research has focused on the effects of the neonatal intensive care unit environment on preterm infants and interventions to reduce the stresses of this environment. She is a columnist and editorial board member for the Journal of Perinatal and Neonatal Nursing, lead for the Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing Test Work Group for the National Certification Corporation for the Obstetrical, Gynecological and Neonatal Nursing Specialties, and a member of the Nurse Advisory Council of the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation. Dr. Blackburn is the author of Maternal, Fetal and Neonatal Physiology: A Clinical Perspective, currently in its 4th edition.

Research Interests: 
Depression, women's mental health, violence and aggression, statistics and research design.
